Solace
A place of peace, appeasement, and comfort during tough times. The echoing sounds of the shoreline offer Emily a period of calm amidst the chaos of life. This immersive piece of work shows how your quick trip to the beach is the artists solace on a dark day and can be a huge mood lifter.

Reflection
Using numerous materials and experimenting with curatorial methods, this photobook explores the meanings of reflection in language and practice. Creative inspiration and motivation significantly decreased during COVID-19 lockdowns. In a desperate attempt to keep creative juices flowing, Emily began reminiscing and reflecting on previous work for inspiration. Whilst doing this, she realised that reflection had played a huge part in her life over the year. The pandemic led many to reflect on the previous freedom taken for granted, reflection is everywhere and has several different meanings.

Heimlich / Unheimlich
These images reflect change and Freud’s outlook on familiarity in The Uncanny along with Jung’s principle of opposites. With lockdown restrictions and the coronavirus pandemic, our outlook on what is familiar and unfamiliar had been altered. Using simplistic methods and experimentation Emily concluded that creating images of familiar objects and distorting them using scanography would depict this. Trees and plants were one of only a few things that remained the same throughout the coronavirus crisis. Our lockdown restrictions allowed daily walks and therefore many were seeing more of nature than usual. Black and white images create the unease of something unfamiliar and horrifying. This contrasts our previous thoughts on trees and plants acting as a haven and an escape from the reality of the situation.
